Basilica of St John
Enough of the basilica survives — columns, the marble floor, the stepped tomb area — to read the shape of what was once one of the largest churches in the world.
It stands on Ayasuluk Hill, so the visit doubles as a viewpoint: the Temple of Artemis column below, the İsa Bey Mosque at the foot of the slope, and on a clear day the sea beyond the plain.
The ticket also covers Ayasuluk Fortress at the top of the hill, so allow time to walk up rather than turning back at the basilica.
